Last week, a church member called me and asked prayers regarding her child that had a very high count of white blood cells. The doctor who checked her was too careless to make assumptions that gave the mother quite a scare.
They gave the child an x-ray to rule out a certain disease but made an assumption that it was probably leukemia, the cancer of the blood. And, of course, what parent would not worry about a child when a medical professional gives a diagnosis that has to do with cancer like leukemia or malignant Mesothelioma. The parent was referred to a specialist, a hematologist, and eventually discovered that it was just gastroenteritis and not leukemia.
I respect doctors, but in the case of the parent that I talked to, I think it was very unprofessional of the doctor to say things like that carelessly. I am just glad for the parent and her child that it was not cancer.
